Position Title: Energy Engineer 

Employment Status: Full Time 

Location: Remote, hybrid, Connecticut (WFH with site visits & client meetings)

Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled and self-motivated Energy Engineer to support utility-sponsored energy efficiency and research programs. In this role, you will perform independent site visits across a range of commercial and industrial facilities, identifying energy-saving opportunities and performing engineering calculations to support custom and prescriptive incentive programs. You’ll collaborate closely with utility clients, program implementers, and cross-functional teams to analyze data, develop technical documentation, and contribute to pilot program design and evaluation. This is a hands-on, technically focused role ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in both field and analytical settings and is passionate about driving decarbonization through real-world impact. Please note that you must be willing to travel to site visits in Connecticut to be eligible for this role.  
 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and conduct on-site ASHRAE Level I & II energy assessments for commercial facilities to identify and quantify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements 

  • Develop and review energy savings calculations for prescriptive and custom measures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to utility TRMs and program guidelines 

  • Collaborate with program implementers, utility clients, and trade allies to provide technical guidance and ensure alignment with program goals 

  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, customer-facing documentation, and internal memos summarizing energy savings potential, project economics, and recommended next steps 

  • Review and validate customer-submitted project data and engineering documentation for incentive eligibility 

  • Contribute to development of measure characterization studies, white papers, and market research efforts 

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving technologies, building systems, and industry best practices related to energy efficiency and decarbonization 

  • Participate in stakeholder meetings, workshops, and trainings to communicate findings and support continuous improvement of program delivery 
     

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy Engineering (or related field) 

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in energy efficiency program implementation, engineering analysis, or related utility consulting work 

  • Proficient in conducting independent site visits for commercial and industrial facilities, including HVAC, lighting, envelope, and process assessments 

  • Strong experience in calculating energy savings for prescriptive and custom energy efficiency measures using engineering models, spreadsheets, and/or simulation tools (e.g., eQUEST, EnergyPlus, or similar) 

  • Familiarity with utility Technical Reference Manuals (TRMs), ASHRAE guidelines, and industry-standard savings methodologies 

  • Ability to interpret utility usage data and perform end-use disaggregation or baseline modeling 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into actionable insights for both internal teams and external stakeholders 

  • Skilled at collaborating with cross-functional teams including program managers, outreach staff, and third-party evaluators 

  • Demonstrated project management ability, with experience leading tasks or initiatives independently under tight timelines 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other engineering or data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, or Energy modeling software) a plus 

  • Ability to self-motivate and work successfully in a remote environment
