By now most of us have seen the new Wonder Woman movie, or at least are aware of the cultural phenomenon of the popular film sweeping across the globe. As a company with an amazing female CEO (who’s pretty much a Wonder Woman herself), we deeply appreciate the value of female leadership. And did you know… there’s an energy efficiency element to the movie as well?
One of Wonder Woman’s classic tools is her “Lasso of Truth” - in addition to being essentially unbreakable, when wrapped around a person it compels them to follow every order and answer every question truthfully. A key feature of the lasso is that it lights up, so some movie magic had to happen for the lasso to be flexible for moving fluidly while also illuminating just right.
The Wonder Woman creative team could have just used post-production CGI for the lasso, but where’s the fun in that? Turns out, the lasso was fashioned by a string of LED lights! As energy efficiency enthusiasts, here at Waypoint, we are thrilled to see such creative and efficient use of technology in Hollywood even though it may be outside our realm of finding energy savings potential in real estate.
Light-emitting diode (LED) is one of today’s most energy-efficient and rapidly developing lighting techniques. LEDs have proven to use 75% less energy, and last 25 times longer than incandescent lighting. The lighting market has evolved to increase efficiency further via lighting controls systems, equipped with occupancy sensors and other integrated controls to reduce wasted electricity even further.
