Waypoint Renews San Francisco Green Business Certification

What kind of energy efficiency consulting team would we be if we didn’t practice what we preached? While Waypoint strives to support our commercial real estate partners’ energy efficiency initiatives, we also recognize the importance of our own sustainability initiatives. Since 2015, Waypoint Building Group, which includes Waypoint Energy, has been certified as a San Francisco Green Business, and we’re happy to announce that we have renewed our certification for 2018!

The San Francisco Green Business Certification recognizes businesses in San Francisco make conscious efforts to incorporate sustainability into their core business operations through internal and external efforts. Specifically, SF Green Businesses:

  • Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

  • Purchase environmentally preferable products

  • Conserve energy, water and natural resources

  • Practice green business policies

  • Educate employees on resource conservation and pollution prevention

Posting clear recycling and composting signage, stocking cleaning materials with non-toxic, green-certified brands, and conducting an energy assessment in our office are merely a few of the sustainability measures Waypoint has taken to obtain this SF Green Business Certification.

One key difference between Waypoint’s work and this certification is the emphasis on energy. While Waypoint has historically worked with utilities to help drive energy savings in the commercial real estate space, we are now also working with the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International on their waste prevention and water conservation efforts—the BOMA Waste & Water Challenge. You can read more about our BOMA W2 Challenge efforts and how we’re helping buildings track their waste and water usage with ENERGYSTAR Portfolio Manager here. This is a prime example of Waypoint’s client work expanding beyond energy and strengthening the alignment with Waypoint’s internal sustainable efforts as highlighted by the SF Green Business Certification. Though Waypoint’s focus on energy efficiency is the foundation of our work, we cover sustainability in many forms and continue to adapt our work to the changing needs of the built environment.
