Position Summary:

Waypoint Energy is currently seeking an energy engineer to join our team in the Michigan. In this role, you will facilitate the successful delivery of our professional services for customers to drive value for our utility, government, and real-estate clients in a customer-facing role. This position will mostly be remote but will require on-site visits to conduct building audits (ASHRAE I,II) and perform Strategic Energy Management (SEM). You will work with a team of analysts to identify energy conservation measures, perform energy efficiency calculations, and build actionable reports for utility customers to ensure delivery of program KPIs. Other responsibilities will include data collection and analysis, presenting to customers and clients, reporting, market research, crafting project deliverables such as research reports and presentations, and creating tools and resources for internal company use.

 

This is an ideal job for someone with a background in energy efficiency engineering with a deep understanding of building systems and utility programs. This role will require prior experience conducting energy audits, and working with SEM programs, and the ideal candidate will also have a passion and capacity for working in an evolving, data-driven, fast-paced growth environment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work internally with team to create and execute new SEM frameworks for program execution

  • Perform on-site ASHRAE Level I and Level II facility audits and develop reports detailing energy conservation measures and related utility incentives

  • Collaborate with outreach team to develop relationships with customers, and coordinate site visits for facility audits

  • Meet with customers to facilitate SEM programming including customer workshop development and presentations

  • Execute engagement strategies within the commercial real estate industry for multiple contracts in multiple regions

  • Lead trainings on energy efficiency with building engineers and property managers

  • Develop and manage stakeholder relationships within a regional portfolio of commercial buildings and utility program management

  • Develop and model financial business cases for building retrofits in collaboration with energy analysts

  • Coordinate with utility account executives to increase adoption and implementation of energy efficient upgrades and other demand side management opportunities at scale

  • Draft client-facing deliverables in a range of formats, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

 

Qualifications:

  • BS or BA in a relevant field (i.e., engineering, energy efficiency, energy management, environmental science)

  • 4+ years of experience in an energy-related field, preferably in a consulting environment

  • Experience performing ASHRAE Level I and Level II building audits and firsthand experience working with SEM and RCx programs

  • Ability to travel regionally to perform on-site services (~20%)

  • Received training in building systems and equipment, energy efficiency, thermodynamics, and heat transfer, specifically in commercial and industrial sectors

  • Proficient in data collection, analysis, and preparing customer-ready reports detailing analytical findings

  • Possess fundamental understanding of energy efficiency market needs, utility markets, and/or building components and energy efficiency measures

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Measurement and Verification (M&V) experience is desirable

  • Experience in energy modeling is a plus

  • Excellent writing, communication, and computer skills are mandatory

  • Ability to work independently and excel in a remote work environment
